husband snaps a few photos
while I help thread her sewing machine —
I’m grateful for his thoughtfulness
Mom’s exhausted when we leave,
worn out from our visit —
she tires so easily these days
the cancer, having its way
with her nearly 90-year-old body,
depletes what little remains of her energy
but not quite yet her resolve
at least, not for now
but we’re well aware, that too,
is also coming

I hope her resolve carries her to her 90th birthday, in August if I remember correctly.
Yes, thank you for that, Sandy. So sweet of you to remember!! Her birthday is August 5th. Fingers crossed!!
And toes, too!
I can see this scene so vividly. I believe a good word to describe it is Brutiful— with elements of both harsh reality and profound beauty. (Coined by Glennon Doyle)
I’m glad you’re writing about what you, your mom, and family are facing.
Sending you a warm hug.
Shelly
Hats off to Glennon Doyle. That would also describe the night, that long, long night, of my father’s passing.
Thanks, Shelly.
