These photos were taken after Dad died in 2007. Cleaning out the sawmill shed and selling all of Dad’s equipment was a difficult day for all of us.

Fascinating, really. I’m always so interested in the work that was once commonplace and now is taken over by big operations. Did your Dad wear protective ear wear?
HA! I don’t think I ever thought about that before. No. I don’t believe that he did. Dad had bad hearing (runs in the family — I have it as well) but he did sit in a booth that offered some protection. However, that was in the mill pictured here. It was built when I was in my early 20’s to replace the sawmill he first started out with. That mill offered no protection.
Good question. I’ll have to ask Mom about that.
Thanks for your comment and for stopping by!
Good series of photos. There’s something about a still photo in a quiet place that kind of catches the melancholy. Like your site!
Thank you. These are photos I uploaded when I first created my blog back in June of last year. They haven’t gotten a lot of play since my follower count was pretty low at first (not that it’s astronomical just yet either!). These photos mean a lot to me. This was my Dad’s livelihood and he LOVED his sawmill. It was hard to lose him and hard to let the sawmill go after he was gone. Thank you so much for your comment. Means a lot!
