liquid nitrogen’s burn — and tingle
deftly applied to
persistent spots
on my face, my legs
parts of me forever exposed to the sun;
denial, years in the making.
I positively cringe, too, thinking about that year’s membership I had at the tanning salon in my 20’s. Laying out one sunny day, reading a magazine article about skin cancer, I looked up at the sun, went inside and never returned – halfway through the year – to the tanning bed.
