This, from Substack. So creative. So cool. Awesomeness!!
each to their own abilities
on arthritic knees,
grateful for cooling breezes,
she pulls the weedy grasses, easily—
leaves stubborn thistles
and oak tree nymphs
for spray nozzle’s lethal poisons
flower bed dominatrices
spiky loosestrife
gentle coneflower
peppery chive
sun-hungry clematis—
each one,
my purple garden mistress
my sister’s basement
seven inches of murk
flooded street & backyard
a deluge of rainwater
w/absolutely nowhere to go
fur love & other affections
my neighbor lines the lower perimeter
of his wrought iron fence—
its western side aligns with our own backyard’s—
with twelve inches of chicken wire,
four hundred yards of the stuff
in order to allow his sister’s two puppies,
tiny Yorkshire terriers, to freely roam
and not slip through the vertical spires
when she comes to visit.
what we do for those we love,
what we do for our canine companions…
The Numbers Game: 199
sky
an unrelenting rain
warm drops of nirvana
rivers and fields rejoice
and now, we wait
the bombings in Iran—
ultimately, a good thing
or just the beginning
of unfolding reprisals?
out of focus
safflower seeds scatter
wedge themselves between the cracks
my inarticulate mind
summer solstice
the longest day begins
thunder, rain & spears of light
from an angry, impatient sky
