clutter the herb garden,

I clean the beds as best I can.

I’d had such plans for the mojito mint

though it does smell divine.

the oregano, basil, rosemary,

thyme, sage, & parsley—

I’m pleased with all of it.

oh, but those chives!

scattered on the ground

a trellised garden beckons,

its lush sanctuary

overflowing with birdsong

overcast morning

pale light filters through the leaves,

grants us quiet passage

I palm a warm mug,

the morning’s chill dissipates.

a pair of mourning doves

cozy up close,

mindful of the main event.
