I looked at flowers and trees, sunsets and nature, rustic barns and people I love – some of my most favorite of all the beautiful things that I cherish and hold dear. But I stopped in my tracks, poring through my photo archives, eyes blinking with a slow smile etched across my face. This photo of my Townie Electra, teal blue and a little bit retro, a dream to ride and my ticket to exhilaration, is my choice for this week’s B&W photo challenge.

The freedom and thrill of riding a bicycle again after so many years and with, ahem, upper middle age approaching all too swiftly, the great satisfaction and joy that biking adds to my life is truly a beautiful thing to feel, to behold, to know, to experience. One of life’s simple pleasures indeed.

Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: What is beautiful to you?

It was one of those gray and gloomy overcast days and, as such, there was not much color to be found here with this old, broken tree and the mighty creature perched in its branches. I don’t know if this is some type of hawk or maybe an eagle. In any case, black and white seemed the appropriate choice for taking this photo.

And so, the last day of the Five Day B&W Photo Challenge. I’d like to thank my friend Cee Neuner of Cee’s Photography for inviting me to play!

Day Four displayed the exit from the grand ballroom in the Temple of Performing Arts. Here is a shot of the ballroom itself. I don’t know that I’ve done it justice but I post it for two reasons. One, to convey the size and magnitude of this space and two, to try to express the feeling of being there, by myself, with no one around. It was quiet and still, dim and yet illuminated from above via the beautiful stained glass skylights in the ceiling high overhead. It was a small but pleasurable adventure for a lazy Sunday afternoon!

Two rules for this challenge:

1. For 5 days create a post using any past or present photo in black and white.
2. Each day you invite a new photographer to join the fun.
