once upon a time
I looked into my future
both eager & afraid —
watching my shadow,
searching for clues

once upon a time
I looked into my future
both eager & afraid —
watching my shadow,
searching for clues
gargantuan footsteps
the ones they loved most
have gone away
My poem, Five Blackbirds: Random Meanderings While Scrutinizing a Shrunken World, was published on August 12, courtesy of Bulb Culture Collective which is self-described as an online literary space for previously published literary work.
I hope you’ll enjoy it!
speaking only now of hangnails
lumpy gravy, burned out lightbulbs —
yet another New Year’s Eve
does the ibis sing?
it does not.
its cry, a nasaled honk —
just one of many things
I sometimes ponder
over a cup of tea
on a late summer morn.
Emily speaks
to me, yet again
stuck inside our castle,
demons & dragons await
just outside the door —
there is no armor to bear
to protect oneself
from the fires that rage on the other side
severe storm risk looms
early morning lawns are mowed
weeds are whacked
walks are walked
runs are ran
Ripped from the pages of Tiger Beat,
my 14-year-old obsession —
Dreams of being ‘discovered’ by him
& happily, ever after, as the story goes
forgotten by all but one
an unexpected one, at that
kindness is still kindness
