the fierceness
of the calla lily
I wonder
when I might die

portable radio, bike helmets
quilts & pillows: our basement nook
spring storm passes us by
periwinkle drops
lemon sprinkles
soft cotton dreams
April cherry blossoms
haiku fundamentals

stray wisps of gray
seeking refuge
from the confinement
of a tattered baseball cap
beaded pink purse
orange silk scarf
purple fishnet stockings
gray-haired madame
spring-inspired
daylight edges closer—
oh, but we do not wish
to abandon the night!
their truth calls them out
I see it more and more each day
it saddens but informs me
I am
but when I’m seen
it’s the sugar on top
