One of my favorites too. For some reason though my own bloom for a very short period while I see others blooming for much, much longer. Any suggestions? BTW – this is a shot from last year. I’m still waiting for blooms here too. 🙂
I think it varies some with the variety. Also my experience is that they like sun and some water, but not a whole lot. One of the things I enjoy about the clematis, is that once established, they seem to thrive on benign neglect–I do very little and they carry on. I had one for several years on an old deck, and it was lost in the redo. But before then, it got droopy, and after pruning it back severely the next fall, it was quite strong and resplendent, blooming well all the following summer.
I’ve never considered pruning it back. Maybe I’ll try that. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the show while I can!
Love clematis! My vines are now growing well, hope for blooms in a week or two.
