wet September,
grasses and trees adore you
I did as well — at first
now, I keenly await
the cool crisp of autumn,
winter’s hungry maw,
a grateful distant spring

Anyone else annoyed and/or disgusted by CNN and, more recently, MS NOW requiring paid subscriptions to open and read any of their headlined articles?!?! I’ve been a loyal CNN website reader for years, and it irks me no end that I now have to pay to read their articles. Up until a short time ago, I was gratified that at least MS NOW was available. Nope. Now they’re charging as well. Argh!!!
the dampened quiet
an overcast sky
we fret, we implore
will more rain
continue to fall?

what color do I paint the rain
as it slides down a pane of glass?
how do I corral the wind
as it nestles in the boughs of a sycamore?
where do I unload the burdens
never asked or paid for?
why does the dark-eyed junco,
pecking scattered seeds on the ground,
forever make me smile?

a garden of roses, bereft of bloom
a smiling face, bereft of warmth
a broken heart, bereft of hope
a broken world, bereft of kindness
earrings
gently tinkle
she’s one
self-belled cat
slatted sunlight
puppy’s ambrosia
mine, too

pollen-dusted red-eye
head-busting sinus blues
ragweed rules
the roost around here

I’m befuddled by others’ conduct
what odd & disrespectful behaviors

on display — rudeness, arrogance,
incivility, boorish disregard, self-
*
centeredness, envy, greed & contempt
what a withering indictment
*
sobering, sad, & disconcerting
this country, this humanity of ours

August’s summer temper(ature) tantrum
bleeds into September’s autumnal promise
patience and good humor will prevail
should we fail to wilt before cool air arrives
