We rode rental bikes around the perimeter of Mackinac Island, reveling in the freedom, the isolation, the beauty of this magical place when we travelled there in 2012. Motorized vehicles are not permitted there, and the streets are filled with happy, fudge-sick visitors and horse-drawn carriages. Too late in the season, I tried to make reservations for an October visit – with puppy, this time – but nothing was available. I’m itching for a return engagement with this wonderful place. Next year, I think. Next year!
