I’m not at all consistent in following this challenge but today, I’m all in!

late December
another difficult year
nearly spent
mountain-trail vista
eye-level, roiling clouds
elevation 12,183 feet
long, the hours of darkness—
enjoy the bleakness while you can
tomorrow, the light begins its reign
turbulent winds woke me at midnight
was that a runaway train I heard
or the roar of a 747 skimming our rooftop?
minute by minute, hour after hour—
as sleep eluded me, at last I turned on the light

Husband and I are in the midst of a total basement dust-up and re-org. Tucked away behind bags of wrapping paper, bows and holiday gift bags, I discovered a box I did not recognize. No clue whatsoever as to its contents.
Lo and behold, an after-Christmas find from several years ago that I’d totally forgotten about. And isn’t he lovely! Our storage room re-do just paid off with a nice little bang. I love stumbling across these hidden treasures!
burgundy ribbed tights, velvet pinafore
a single spotlight, the hushed crowd
8-year-old Allison steps up to the microphone
reveries of Christmas when I was young
red, green, blue—a medley of gold
undecided which tree lights I loved best
the short night —
owl wingtips slapping snow
tiny branches quiver

I don’t usually post my quilting projects. Well, at first, I guess I did but, in any case, I just haven’t done it much lately. Anyway, I did want to share this one which I started nearly a year ago. I’ve worked on it, off and on, throughout the year and finally finished it this afternoon.
Its design is called the Carpenter Star, and it measures 82×82. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. This one was a beast to work on and I’m so glad it’s done!! Now to focus on poetry again for a little while before I start another quilt project anytime soon. At least that’s the plan!!
