caught in the beat, my ears were happy

snow-dusted pathways

an entirely new world
commiserating over the Viking’s loss last night, I reconnect with an old friend

I long to wrap my arms around him but remember how they say to let sleeping dogs lie
puppy sleeps in the light
that pours from a south-facing window,
sunshine warms his gumdrop nose—
our boy, dreaming
of belly rubs, car rides & squirrels
basement overhaul
another winter project
plenty to keep us occupied
as we wile away the hours
morning constitutional
little puppy
with mommy, in tow
he runs low to the ground
beneath the wintry wind
more, then more again
fairway, dusted in white
descending from a January sky
wide at first, the circles tighten
wild geese in the hundreds
to mecca they come
honey fire
shared secrets
the camaraderie
of friendship
it matters
an indifferent silence
what’s left, unsaid
insensitively impolite
