Dusk was about an hour away and I hadn’t yet taken any photos for my daily Project 365 initiative. We’d been out of town the last two days and we were exhausted by the time we finally returned home earlier this evening. After emptying the dishwasher and tending to laundry, I sat a spell and played with my camera. Because there was still adequate light for a bit of a ‘hunting’ expedition, husband and I decided to see what we could see as we headed toward country roads not yet traveled – always my favorite way to explore new photo ops!

After a few shots of farm sheds, crooked mailboxes and ditch weeds, we stumbled upon an old church and cemetery. More photos to follow later but I was especially pleased with this skyward shot grounded by the entry to the church grounds. We’ll definitely return and next time we’ll pack up the DSLR and our tripod and try to allow for more evening daylight so we have adequate time to play and explore!

This little outing made my day. Don’t ever call me high maintenance. You can forget fancy cars, jewelry and nights on the town. THIS is my idea of great fun!

The work day done, I sat outside in the shade of the our covered entry, relaxed and unhurried, reading a new book on my Kindle and admiring the purple coneflowers that line the walkway to our front door. The sun was bright and shiny and a slight breeze ran through all things green and growing from my vantage point. Despite being early July, the air was crisp, like a beautiful fall afternoon, and the temperatures were mild. In short, it was a lovely day.

I’d just taken a break from my reading and felt a sudden calm, a sense of peace. No thoughts or mind-speak roiling through my brain, no nagging guilt over undone chores or anxious speculation of things yet to come. It felt nice. I smiled. Similar moments of unruffled idyll have caught me – pleasantly – unaware these last few weeks.

What is the opposite of omen? Is there such a thing? A harbinger of some sort for happiness? For whatever it is, I’m pondering the possibility of an unbidden premonition of a newfound attainment of peace of mind. An awareness of what is, what isn’t, what won’t or can’t be and what just might come my way. And finding myself at ease – for today! – reveling in this delightful sense of serenity.

May that it lasts and may that it be true.

Cee has tasked us with posting photos of five or more items. A tasty entrée to go with pork chops is asparagus, several of which (translation: more than five!) are amassed on this lovely platter made of plastic, grilled for supper one night last week courtesy of my husband. Slathered in olive oil and adorned with sea salt – this popular spring vegetable was quite delicious.
